The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) provides free LPG connections to women from low-income families across India. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage the use of clean and efficient cooking fuel instead of smoke-producing firewood and coal. Along with the initial connection, eligible beneficiaries receive the subsidy amount directly in their bank account through DBT.
